Welcome Lauren from YOUniquely Tutoring

Hello ðŸ˜Š

My name is Lauren, and I am extremely excited about joining Impact Tutoring as an online tutor. I have been teaching for 12 years and recently transitioned into creating my own tutoring business, YOUniquely Tutoring.

As a teacher, I have taught a range of age groups from Year 1 to Year 9, as a homeroom teacher, Mathematics teacher, English teacher, Science teacher and Humanities teacher. I have also held a leadership position, for the past 5 years, as a Middle School Curriculum Leader in Mathematics, at Kristin School. In 2021 I transitioned into a role in the Inclusive Education team, supporting students who are gifted or have a variety of learning needs. I found this role extremely rewarding as I was able to work one-on-one with students, supporting them to access the curriculum and have greater success with demonstrating their knowledge and understanding.

Which is why I also love being a tutor. For 12 years I dreamed of having the capacity and time to consistently support my students in the way I can as a tutor: providing one-on-one support that is fully differentiated and targeted for their learning style, while also prioritising celebrating all their process, no matter how small. I am excited to be able to work with students through Impact Tutoring, as this affords me the opportunity to support an even wider range of children. Helping them to develop new methods and strategies in mathematics, build a greater understanding of concepts, or to improve their knowledge and literacy skills, that will support them throughout their education.

My teaching journey began in Canada, obtaining my Bachelor of Education after attending university and receiving a Bachelor of Science (Biology) and Bachelor of Psychology/Neuroscience. From there I volunteered as a teacher in Butiama Tanzania, and then accepted a teaching position at a newly formed international school in Cairo Egypt, in 2011. This was a philanthropic school, as it was fully funded for local Egyptian children. Sadly, during the Arab Spring, the teachers were evacuated out of the country and the school ended up closing. So, from there I chose to move to Australia and teach in Melbourne for 3 years, before reaching my final destination of New Zealand. I have been here for 7 years and counting.

I pride myself in creating tutoring sessions that meet the needs and goals of each individual child, while working to support them to build more positive mindsets around their capabilities. Teaching is a strong passion of mine and I look forward to working with families, to assist their children with building their own love of learning.

Lauren
